One of the most important steps in assuring you have great tasting coffee is the grind. How course or fine you grind your coffee will effect the brewing process and in the end the taste.

Espresso has a fine grind while immersion brewing techniques such as a French press or even most cold brew methods, typically use a courser grind. The most important aspect in grinding is too make sure the coffee particles are all uniformly even in size. This way there is equal distribution of of water during the brew process leading to a clean, even extraction.

To make sure you are grinding your coffee even, use a burr grinder rather than a blade grinder. Burr grinders are usually a bit more expensive, but they are well worth the investment.
